Another aspect of listening well to sermons is one’s view of preaching itself. One should develop a theology of preaching. Is preaching just instruction? Is it a lecture that comes out of the enlightenment ethos? Should it be short? Long? Dialogical?
Martin Lloyd Jones is one of my favorite voices on preaching. Check him out on Wikipedia if you are not familiar with him. I think he has a website dedicated to him, too.
Here are some thoughts by Lloyd Jones that Tim Keller muses on.
By the way, you should go to hear Keller at the DPAC on the evening of May 4th!
Tim Keller at the DPAC was mentioned in a class this week. We probably need to put a notice in the bulletin if it has not already been considered.
